Death separates your soul from your body and your soul will live forever in either Heaven or Hell. If you died today, where would you go? The scriptures explain how you can know you will go to Heaven when you die.
1. You are a sinner.
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.“ Romans 3:23
“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: … there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” Romans 3:10, 12b
2. You owe a penalty.
“For the wages of sin is death;” Romans 6:23a
“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” Revelation 20:15
3. You must believe that Jesus Christ paid the penalty for your sins through His shed blood and death on the cross.
“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21
4. You must receive salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Salvation cannot be earned by good works; it is a free gift from God.
“The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23b
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8, 9
5. Jesus is the only way to Heaven. How do you receive Jesus as your Saviour?
“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” Romans 10:9
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13
If you will trust Jesus Christ alone as your Saviour, say a prayer similar to this:
Dear God: I know that I am a sinner. I believe Jesus died on the cross to pay for my sins and that He arose again from the dead. I am willing to place my complete trust in Jesus to save me. I ask you to forgive my sins, and I now trust Jesus as my Saviour. I will completely depend on Jesus and Jesus alone for my salvation. Thank you for saving me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
The Bible teaches that you can know for sure you are saved. If you receive the gift of eternal life, you can never lose that gift.
“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” 1 John 5:13
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
Once you are saved, you should grow spiritually. Here are some ways to grow:
1. Join a Bible-believing church.
2. Pray and study your Bible.
3. Tell others what Jesus did for you.
